Power Supply Monitor and Controller for the Spin Control System

Design:  Instrumentation Design Laboratory, the University of Kansas

Monitor Functions:

  • The board measures both current and voltage for each of the four power supplies.
  • The results of the measurements can be displayed on the LED Display Board.
  • The results are sent to the host computer via the USB port.
Control:
  • The Power Supply Monitor Board can also control the operation of three of the power supplies for the following two purposes:
    • Sequence the power supplies so they do not all come on at once, creating a current surge.
    • Leaving the supplies that are not needed turned off.  (The -5V and +24V supplies will not be needed in every installation.)

Operation.  After installation, the unit will normally operate in stand-alone mode, providing results on the display.  The PSM is set up from a PC (calibration and switching individual supplies on and off).  While connected to a PC, data are displayed on the PC.
