The Bicolor Leaf Photometer (BLP) is an instrument for monitoring chloroplast movement, built for Prof. Craig Martin.

The BLP illuminates the subject with blue light (λmax = 475 nm) for a period. Then the illumination switches to red light (λmax = 635 nm) for about 250 µs where a transmission measurement is executed.

The complete BLP instrument has several components:

  • The BLP Unit is the control/illumination/measurement system, described in the BLP Hardware section.

  • The mounting system, not described herein but outlined in the reference paper:
    Robert Berg, et.al.

  • The Graphical User Interface (GUI) is the PC software, described in the BLP GUI section.
