ChemOffice Ultra with ChemDraw is available on KU campus-wide site license

ChemOffice Ultra is available through a campus-wide site license as of March 29, 2004.    The new 2008-2009 license is now available, as of March 26, 2008.

Note:  For existing users of the ChemBioOffice Ultra site license, and email was sent on March 6, 2008, explaining the renewal procedure.  If you did not get that email, contact your technical liaison; if that person is unfamiliar, contact Ken Ratzlaff (ratzlaff@ku.edu ).

Also note that there is a new activation procedure this year.

ChemBioOffice Ultra 2008
is a suite of packages for persons in chemically related fields.  It includes ChemBioDraw, the premier chemical structure drawing tool and ChemBio3D, a molecular modeling program as well as 11 other utilities for chemists and biologists.

Procedure  Anyone with an @.ku.edu email address may download the full executable via http://chemstore.cambridgesoft.com/sitelicense.cfm?sid=7

You then register an account and download the installation package.  (The package is over 230 MB!  If you have a slow link at home, you may want to download on campus and bring home a CD.)  This installation is ChemBioOffice 2008 (PC) or  ChemBioOffice 11 (Mac) that will be valid until April 1, 2009.

Note:  You should get an email within minutes.  If you don't after a longer period, contact Ken Ratzlaff or Bob Timberlake.

Support  For installation support, etc., contact the IT support person for your department.

Eligibility  Any student, faculty member or staff member at the University of Kansas is eligible to download and use the full ChemBioOffice suite.  Downloads take place from the Cambridge servers; to authenticate, you must have a .ku.edu email address.

Note:  We asked Cambridge Software for clarification on KUMC, and they responded that the site license only applies to a single campus.*

Public Labs:  A special serial number is available for installations on groups of computers.  This serial number is not  to be used for computers assigned to individuals.  See Bob Timberlake (bTimber@ku.edu, 550-7105) for assistance.

Sponsors:  This license is funded (at a cost of ~$15K per year) by Chemistry, CEBC, CMLD, COBRE, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, BIO Center, Molecular Biosciences, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and School of Pharmacy.  (The current pricing for a single academic license is $1,290.  The current commercial pricing for a single license is $2850.)

For acquisition and installation information, contact your Technical Liaison or Bob Timberlake (785-550-7105).

*  Contact Jenny Mehmedovic, 864-4999, with questions concerning eligibility for a @ku.edu email address by persons working with the University who are not students or paid staff on the Lawrence campus.  Some collaborators with KU investigators may be eligible.
